NYT Most Notable Challenge

I'm hosting this challenge...choose a selection of books from the NYT 2006 Most Notable list, read them and share your thoughts
here. It's not too late to join us!

I've really stretched myself, committing to reading 20 off the list...go here to see my list, progress and reviews of the books for this challenge.

Around The World in 80 Books

Sally from Reading Challenges has a personal challenge to read 80 books set in 80 different countries. Based in part on the book Around The World In 80 Days, by Jules Verne, Sally says:

"As it is a personal challenge, I actually haven't set myself a
time frame, I'm just going to plod through. I sort of pinched the idea
from a forum on Oprah's web page, but there are other bloggers doing
similar things - one lady is actually writing a book along the lines
of 'So many books so little time' but about reading around the world.

I am going to read 80 books set in different countries - only one book
from a country - I have read a few books set in Afghanistan this year
- but only counting one. The whole book has to be set in that country,
or mostly in that country, not counting it if the main character
spends one chapter in a country. Oh, and it doesn't necessarily have
to be a translated book."
Sounds like a fun challenge!

Japan Challenge - 2007

Tanabata has been doing a personal challenge of reading 12 books from Japanese authors (all in translation). She started in January, and will continue through December 31, 2007. I imagine she wouldn't mind if anyone joined her! Looks like one book a month. Go here to learn more or to drop her a comment.

The Year of Down Under Challenge

Ariel at Sycorax Pine has been working on her own personal challenge of reading 12 books by Australian authors (click here) (January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007). Even though we are half way through 2007, she is inviting people to join her. Whatever month you join, you simply read one book per month.

She is also planning to host this challenge (with a different country) beginning in 2008, and rumor has it there will be a blog devoted to it!

2007 Summer Mystery Reading Challenge

June 1st Through August 31st

Reviewed By Liz, a mystery review site, is hosting a new summer challenge to read six mysteries in three months by authors whose works you haven’t read before.

They say:

"Why only new-to-you authors? The mystery category has EXPLODED in recent years. There are lots of great authors writing in many mystery sub-genres – suspense, cozy, historical, thriller, romantic, noir, medical, supernatural, police procedural, etc. This challenge gives you the incentive to sample the works of these new and new-to-you authors."

There will also be some prizes - a book drawing every week of the challenge for ALL participants, and a drawing for a $25.00 Amazon gift certificate at the end of the challenge for those who complete the challenge.

For those of you on challenge overload - the sponsors of A Summer Mystery Reading Challenge are okay with you overlapping reads from other challenges! Visit their site via the link above for more details and to sign up!
