This year, because I have a bit of leftover brainspace for nerdtastic things, because it’s my birthday month, and because I simply can, I shall declare May to be one of Ancient May-hem! Essentially, I plan to read as many texts from Ancient Greek and Rome as time allows, and then post about each after I’m done. I currently only have a rather vague list containing the works of Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, and Plutarch, but I’ll have this consolidated by the beginning of May. In any case, I’m hoping to indulge in a great deal of Ancient May-hem!I know it might be a little late to make this a “proper” reading challenge, but I’m going to try to hold an “improper” one anyway (whatever that means). If you’re interested in joining me, please sign up using the “Add a Link” thingy below—participants who read at least one text will be in the running for a book prize at the end of the month!
Rules
- Read at least one text/book by an Ancient Greek or Roman writer—this can be in any translation of your choosing, and can be of any text type (poetry, drama, treatise, etc). For this time round, the focus is on the Western Classics, so I’m afraid other Ancient works won’t count (sorry—maybe next year!).
- Please specify the translation/edition you’ve read, just to add to the mayhem.
- Want to read a free version available online via Project Gutenberg or some such? You’re absolutely welcome to do so!
- Post about the challenge on your blog, Goodreads, Twitter—whatever works for you! Whichever you choose, please provide a link back to this post and share the news.
- In the sign-up “Add a Link” form, link to your challenge sign-up post (if you’re blogging), or to your Goodreads/Twitter/whatnot account.
- You don’t need to write any reviews to participate in the challenge—just reading is enough!
- You don’t even need to sign-up to participate—but if you do, you’ll be in the running for a prize draw after the challenge is over.
- The prize will be a Classical-related book of your choosing under ~AU$20.
