...but one I have decided to make.
I started A Novel Challenge way back in April 2007 - shortly after I discovered the wonderful world of book blogs and reading challenges. I wanted to give readers one place to find all the reading challenges in the blog-o-sphere. Eventually, I was to add not only reading challenges, but reading events to the blog. Never did I imagine how this blog would grow and how popular it would become (there are currently 1200 posts here). The book blogging world has proven to be a rich community for creativity! And for that, I am immensely grateful to those readers who, over the years, have been faithful visitors to A Novel Challenge.
In January 2009, I invited Teddy of So Many Precious Books, So Little Time to come on board and help me with the administration of the blog. Her enthusiasm and assistance has been incredibly appreciated. Without Teddy, this announcement would have come much sooner.
After more than four years, I have decided to let A Novel Challenge go. Over the last two years, I have been involved less and less in reading challenges, and found myself wanting to spend more time focused on my primary blog, Caribousmom, rather than dividing my time between specialized blogs, like this one. I have found there are just not enough hours in the day, and sometimes tough decisions need to be made to restore sanity! Teddy has also found herself very busy with her new virtual book tour company. I had thought to simply ask someone to take over the blog - but, I really do not want to continue to be connected to it ... I would rather make a clean break.
There are many challenges which run through the end of December - so I will be keeping A Novel Challenge blog up through that time. Content will be deleted on January 1st, 2012. I will not be adding any new challenges or events from today onward.
If anyone would like to continue providing links to reading challenges and events on a different site, please consider teaming up. You are more than welcome to leave comments here and hopefully connect with other readers who may be interested in continuing this idea. Trust me, one person doing it all is really not possible! If another site is developed - I will be happy to announce it here and give people a link to it. In fact, I would consider deleting the content here, but keeping one post which would redirect people to the new site through June 2012. I am very congnizant of the fact that this blog is a community service...and I certainly would support any efforts to continue that service elsewhere.
Once again - many thanks to all of you who have encouraged me from the beginning and who have continued to support A Novel Challenge with your patronage.
Well, gosh, Wendy. We've really appreciated you and your service. Thank you so much for connecting us with so many others with the same tbr lists and genre loves. Enjoy your time reading!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gina :)
ReplyDeleteThis was a great and valuable resource for us book bloggers and I truly appreciate all the time and effort that the 2 of you put into this project!!
ReplyDeleteI am interested in picking it up (with the help of some other people). Can I contact you (or you contact me)?
I can't imagine how much work must have gone into this. I think it's completely understandable that you are letting it go.
ReplyDeleteBook Vixen: You can email me at caribousmom (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you've done for the community over the last years Wendy. :) I completely understand your decision.
ReplyDeleteI sent you an email Wendy :)
ReplyDeleteI discovered this blog almost as soon as I discovered the book blogging community. I've found most of my reading challenges and events through here. Thank you so much for all you efforts and making things so easy for us!^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your hard work, Wendy. :)
ReplyDeleteFrom running a reading challenge I understand how hard it can be to keep up with this stuff. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this blog, I love it and used it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI am more than willing to team up with some others to create another blog that will be a resource for reading challenges and events. I notice The Book Vixen is interested as well...I'll send you an email and maybe we can figure something out.
@Kris - that would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteCan't say that I blame you for having to cut back and be realistic, since I suffer from over-commitment myself.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would love it if you would leave the blog up so we can continue to use the links. Even if it's not updated, a challenge link from a few years ago might lead to the 2012 version . . . which would be a great service to those of us who love and use your Novel clearinghouse!
Just my two cents. Feel free to say NO! :-)
Wendy like I said in my email, I totally support you in this decision.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I could be a part of A Novel Challenge. I'm sorry I am unable to take over fully for you but hopefully Book Vixen or someone else will start it up again. It has been a very valued service.
Hugs!
Wendy (and Teddy) -- I so greatly appreciate the service you gals have provided here! It's been an awesome resource, and I'm sad to see it go... BUT... I also understand the need for you to do so to 'restore sanity'. My own life has gotten mega-busy, what with working full-time now, and I just feel very overwhelmed at times.
ReplyDeleteSo, thank you so much for the time you DID spend here... and I wish you all the best in the future! :D
PS... There is always the Book Blogger Directory as a way for people to find more reading challenges! It'll take a little longer, 'cause they'll have to browse through the blogs... but it's a way, at the very least. ;)

Thank you so much for the service that you (with Teddy) have provided over the years. Life does always seem to get in the way of things we like to do.
ReplyDeleteI know that I have benefited from using this site it has push me to find great reads/books in genre that I wouldn't have otherwise from challenges
I look forward to hearing from others what they hope to do to continue or where else the will be posting (goodreads, book blogs etc)
I do agree it is a great source to look at for past challenges for ideas so it would be great to be able to find an archive somewhere
Best wishes to all and happy reading
Thanks so much for your efforts over the last 4 years-novelchallenges helped me find a lot of great reading challenges and events-best wishes
ReplyDeleteWendy - I have found this blog to be such a wonderful resource, thank you for all your hard work and lovely news that Book Vixen will be carrying it on - much appreciated.
